How to Craft a Magical Christmas Wedding

A Christmas wedding is slightly less conventional but perfectly festive and fun! In fact, it has the potential to be one of the most special days of your life. From beautiful wintry décor to festive floral bouquets, there are so many elements of a winter wedding to embrace.

To help you craft the most magical Christmas wedding possible, we at Signature Living Weddings have rounded up the best tips and tricks to ensure that your winter nuptials are remembered as the most wonderful time of the year.

Seasonal Decorations

There’s something truly charming about soft candle light, twinkly lights and icy-cool décor. Synonymous with togetherness and joy, the decorations that come hand in hand with Christmas time are sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face. Weave a sense of Christmas cheer into your special day by incorporating luxurious colour schemes, plenty of candlelight and fun little touches like snowflakes – anything that will bring that all important feeling of enchantment and wonder.

Plenty of light sources will also come into their own in a practical sense when it comes to getting the photos just right, as this will remove the need for too much flash photography.Originally a church, Alma de Cuba is a perfect venue for a seasonal theme. Awe inspiring architecture and rich heritage mean that Alma is ideal for a Christmas wedding full of wonder and intrigue.

Bring the Outside In

Think outside the box when bringing outdoor elements into your wedding venue. Incorporating seasonal greenery and foliage into various parts of your wedding is a sure-fire way of creating picture perfect Christmas nuptials; think birch, thistles, branches, mistletoe, roses and anemones.

For example, why not have a row of trees lining the aisle, with the branches and twigs glittering with ‘snow’? Looking to nature like this will create a cosy, rustic feel to your day as well as creating unique photo opportunities! Don’t forget to apply the same thinking to the bouquet. A festive arrangement full of wintry berries, leaves and texture will complete the theme perfectly.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

Having a wedding at this time of year does have its challenges. One of the most important things to bear in mind is the weather – especially if you will be moving from one venue to another in between the ceremony and wedding breakfast. Don’t worry though, just a little bit of creative thinking and you’ll have yourself covered if it gets too chilly. A long-sleeved dress is a usual go-to for a winter wedding, as is making sure your bridesmaids are equipped with a shawl, stole or something to that effect to protect them from the elements.

Sometimes, in addition to the dress, a coordinating jacket or coat can be added to add utility but without compromising on style. The groom and his groomsmen also have the option to get creative – with velvet suit jackets hitting the mark when it comes to being on trend as well as adding that little bit of extra warmth.

It’s the Little Things

If you don’t want to go all out with the Christmas theme but still want an atmosphere full of festive cheer, adding small nuances into your special day will help to create a wedding that is both memorable and unique. Singing carols at appropriate times during the service can be a great way of tying the time of year in with the celebrations. Instead of standard bubbly, break the mould and serve mulled wine and cider to warm your guests up ready for the wedding breakfast. Instead of confetti, why not have your guests light sparklers or candles as you exit as a newly married couple?

Keep It Simple

A great solution to some of the main problems you may face when planning a Christmas wedding is keeping the entire day contained in one venue. Instead of traipsing through the cold to another site, why not find somewhere with plenty of flexibility so you can have your wedding, meal, party and guest accommodation all under one roof? Venues like 30 James Street, The Shankly Hotel and Exchange Hotel are great options for those who want to keep their day seamless, luxurious and stress free.

The Return of the Engagement Party & Where to Host Yours

In the past engagement parties were thrown by the parents of the bride as they proudly announced their daughters pairing off. We are talking period drama times here though.

Since the start of the 20th-century engagement parties fell off the radar of socially acceptable events. They were even considered a bit cheeky by certain people who felt attending hen parties, bridal showers and of course the actual wedding to be celebration enough.

Now, in 2019, we welcome the return of the engagement party with open arms, celebrating our friends and family’s happy news with all the appropriate gusto.

And where better to book your engagement party than with Signature Living and any one of our amazing private party venues.

Baby Eden

Snuggled in the back of The Bastion Bar and Restaurant at The Shankly Hotel a charming city centre venue, Baby Eden awaits you and your loved ones to celebrate the perfect engagement party.

Inside the intimate space can be decorated to your specifications along with a private bar and the most delicious catering.

We can help organise a DJ or a sit-down dinner, a day or evening event. No matter what you need Baby Eden is the perfect place to host unforgettable engagement parties in Liverpool.

Carpathia Private Dining

If you’re thinking of keeping things on a smaller scale and wish to share your happy news with a select few loved ones, consider booking your engagement party in Carpathia’s Private Dining Space.

Answering some of your most frequently asked questions

Our extensive experience with wedding venues in Liverpool has meant that we are often inundated with queries from excited couples looking to create their perfect wedding day.

So, if you’re looking to get married in Liverpool, then you’ve come to the right place!

Along with our guide to some of Liverpool’s most impressive wedding venues, here we have also answered some of your burning questions! Find everything you need to know below:

How do you find wedding venues?

With so much variety out there, finding your perfect wedding venue can take weeks, months or even years to do! The good news is that there are plenty of resources to help make the job a little less taxing, and a little more enjoyable!

The best way to start your hunt for a wedding venue in Liverpool is to get an idea of the following:

  • Timeframe – when do you want to get married? Will it be a summer or a winter wedding? How long have you got to plan?
  • Dates – with a rough idea of how long you have to prepare and save, the next step is to narrow down your search to possible dates. A weekday wedding may be more restrictive, but it is likely to cost less – so these are important factors to consider
  • Budget – perhaps the biggest deciding factor that will help you rule out venues is how much you have to spare. Consider opening up the conversation to your close family, particularly those who may be willing to help contribute to your big day
  • Entertainment – ensure that your chosen location are happy with your entertainment choses, for example if you’re using singing waiters or other live entertainment. Most venues will not have an issue with this, but it’s always worth checking
  • Style – the fun part is deciding on the type of vibe you want your wedding to have. From highly structured to fancy-free, knowing the type of style you want your wedding to be will go a long way to helping you choose a venue

Where can I get married in Liverpool?

From Anfield stadium to the Hard Day’s Night hotel – there are a huge range of wedding venues in Liverpool, which is great for attracting a plethora of people, but not so great when it comes to helping you narrow down your search!

If you’re unsure where you can get married in Liverpool, we advise taking a look at Liverpool.gov where you will find a list of approved wedding venues as well as a range of other important info.

What does a wedding venue in Liverpool cost?

Much like any city, wedding venues in Liverpool can vary drastically in price depending on what you’re looking for. Liverpool itself is home to dozens of beautiful wedding venues perfect for all kinds of budgets, so whether you’re working on a shoestring or have your life’s savings ready to spend – the city has something to offer.

If you’re interested in tying the knot at one of our Signature wedding venues in Liverpool, then why not get in touch with us to discuss your budget today?

Where can I find cheap wedding venues?

If you’re working to a tight budget, it may feel like finding your dream wedding venue in Liverpool is beyond reach. Whilst we understand that some venues are considered on the higher end of the price scale, there are also plenty of affordable, unique and special wedding venues in the city that can offer a memorable day for you and your loved ones.

If you have your heart set on a wedding venue in Liverpool, but need to keep to a particular budget – why not get in touch with us to speak with one of our wedding specialists who can help you create an amazing day that won’t break the bank.

How far ahead should I book a wedding venue?

Ultimately this depends on you and your partner and how prepared you’re already feeling for the big day. As a general rule of thumb, it is advised that couples preparing to say “I do” book a venue at least 12 months before the big day. However, if you’re right at the beginning of preparations and have very little saved up, you’re more likely to benefit from a window of at least 2 years to get your affairs in order.

On the other end of the scale, you may have the finances aside and plans in place to be able to get married in the same year – but to avoid disappointment or missing out on your dream venue, giving as much notice as possible is advised.

How do I give notice of marriage in Liverpool?

Although a crucial part of any wedding prep, giving notice of your up coming marriage doesn’t need to be complicated. You can easily access full information on when and how to give notice of marriage or civil partnership in Liverpool on the gov website.

What do I need to organise for my wedding venue?

Perhaps one of the most time-consuming aspects of planning any wedding is figuring out what you need for your venue, but this demand can change from one venue to the next depending on a range of things, including how hands-on they are as a venue. For example, some wedding venues include a wedding planner as well as offering other support from decoration and flexibility when it comes to where you will say “I do”.

If you are opting for a wedding venue in Liverpool that benefits from a range of facilities you may not need to travel from the ceremony to the reception, removing the need for transport and reducing the amount you need to spend and organise.

It’s always worth having a discussion with your chosen wedding venue about how they can help and what options are available as this will directly impact how much you need to organise ahead of time.

How many wedding venues should I visit before booking?

This is entirely up to you and your partner, and no two couples will say the same! When it comes to the hunt for your dream wedding venue, not just any space will do and so for some it could take weeks or months of countless venue visits before finding the perfect one. On the other hand, we have had couples who have fallen head over heels for one of our venues, before looking anywhere else.

Our advice is to go to every venue with an open mind, ask questions and get as much information as possible so that you can leave feeling informed and reassured that your wishes have been listened to.

How to Make the Perfect Groom Wedding Speech

As a soon-to-be groom, making your groom wedding speech can be daunting. Accustomed as you may be to making big speeches, it’s unlikely that you’ve ever given a speech in what can seem such a high-pressured environment.

There’s a lot to consider when making your groom wedding speech including the length, structure, what to say and who to thank, but nevertheless, don’t panic – we’ve got you covered.

Here are some important pointers to keep in mind as you get ready to give your groom wedding speech. We’ve also included some examples that you can adapt and reuse on the big day. Good luck!

Practice. Practice. Practice.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Dennis Van Akkeren (@dennisvanakkeren) on

A rehearsed groom wedding speech is guaranteed to be an improvement on anything you can – or think you can – knock up in a minute or two.

What we’re trying to say is, don’t be that groom who, when it’s his turn to stand up, goes to absolute bits, gets his new mother-in-law’s name wrong and who is sweating through his nicely tailored summer suit so much that it’s began to cause a scene.

So, practice your groom wedding speech – maybe even try and make your mates cry a bit, just don’t, whatever you do, leave it to the very last minute.

“Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to decide. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part.” (Louis de Bernieres)

Cut the Clichés

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Bright Wing Photography (@brightwingphotography) on

Remember, every groom thinks his partner is stunning (see also amazing, incredible and gorgeous) so think about what makes your partner unique; what makes them stunning to you and no one else.

Are they an ultra marathon runner who eats ice-cream in bed, are they a book-lover, rave-goer, or maybe they’re the most epic hip-hop queen in Eastbourne? Whatever it is, avoid using words like ‘soulmate’ and ‘sidekick’ and resist the urge to call them your best mate.

People want to hear why you love your new-spouse, so make sure you tell them in your groom wedding speech.

“Oh god it’s wonderful

to get out of bed

and drink too much coffee

and smoke too many cigarettes

and love you so much” (Frank O’Hara)

I’d Like to Thank…

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Matthew Grainger Photography (@mattgraingerphoto) on

Whatever you do, do not turn your groom wedding speech into one long and laborious thank you list. That’s not to say don’t thank your nearest and dearest or the people who have helped and waited on you throughout the day, however, there’s no need to thank your great-great-great uncle Neil who took you to the park that one time.

Hook your guests in with a good tale or two and then bore them with the odd thank you. The pleasantries should be no more than an overzealous extra; a walk-on part even, but what they certainly shouldn’t be is the leading man.

“You seem to me to be in every way the visible personification of absolute perfection.” (Oscar Wilde)

Make Sure You Stay Sober

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Lisa (@weddingtalesbylisa) on

Sure, you want to enjoy yourself, and yes, a shot or two may help loosen you up – but please, make sure you stay sober.

Staggering up to make your speech, drink in hand, while your spouse’s dad tries to murder you with his eyes isn’t a good look. Stay clear of the free champagne and focus on the job in hand.

So, save the boozing for the honeymoon and let your best man make a fool of himself when he gives his best man’s speech instead.

“I could tell him, too, that to know and love one other human being is the root of all wisdom.” (Evelyn Waugh)

Make a Toast and Wrap It Up

A post shared by Goweddingcompare (@goweddingcompare) on

There’s a skill in keeping your speech short and punchy. A groom wedding speech should be between 1,000 and 1,300 words and should always be to the point.

The moment anecdotes turn into tales and tales turn into novels, it’s time to put everyone out their misery – remember, no one has ever thought when listening to a wedding speech: “I wish that was longer.”

So, skip the odd thank you, wrap your stories up, raise your glass and get it over with.

“We get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds. The question is: Whether you’re perfect for each other. That’s the whole deal. That’s what it’s about.” (Robin Williams)

Dark & Mysterious

Not everything wedding-related has to be white! Opt for dark blues and moody hues to offset more traditional expectations. Adding hints of silver and twinkly accessories can set a romantic scene, almost as if you were to marry underneath the stars.

Winter Rustica

If you’re getting wed in the colder months, add some wintry charm to your modern wedding cake by adding subtle touches like eucalyptus, birch and winter roses. Only having a minimal amount of buttercream added to the outside of each tier creates a woody effect and sets the scene for the perfect winter wedding.

25 Wedding Readings to Make Guests Laugh & Cry

Whether you and your partner like to do things a little differently or want to add an element of personality to an otherwise traditional day, wedding readings can be the perfect recipe for romance on your special day.

Not only a wonderful way to celebrate your love with friends and family, choosing wedding vows that stray from what’s expected can also show your other half just how much you really care.

So, whether you opt for a romantic extract from classic literature, one of the best wedding readings from films, or draw inspiration from marriage poems, we’ve found something for everyone.

How many readings should you have at a wedding?

When it comes to your big day, there’s little that you can’t tweak to fit with what you and your partner want, and this extends to wedding readings! Although you are required to have at least one Bible reading for a Church of England wedding, a civil ceremony legally requires no readings at all – so if a wedding reading isn’t something you’d considered before, you may be surprised to find you don’t even need one.

It’s true that most bride and grooms-to-be do opt to have some kind of wedding reading, so how many is the right amount? The answer really depends on your personal preferences as really you could have as many, or as few, as you’d like. Most couples opt for somewhere between 1 and 3 wedding readings, and these can be shared between the happy couple, family members and special guests, so there is a lot of flexibility with this.

What is a good reading for a wedding?

There really is no right or wrong answer when it comes to picking the perfect reading to compliment your day. More often than not, couples will opt for a reading that accurately reflects their relationship, and so this can be taken from all kinds of sources – or can even be written by yourselves!

If you’re looking for the perfect words to fit the theme of your wedding venue, you might opt for a poetic piece that accurately describes the romantic atmosphere you’ve worked so hard to create. Alternatively, you and your partner may opt for a more contemporary wedding reading from your favourite song or film. The possibilities truly are endless.

The most important thing when picking the best wedding reading for your special day is that you discuss it with your other half, and find something you both feel works for you.

Unique Wedding Readings

Some brides have been dreaming of their special day since they were little girls, and if that sounds like you then the chances are you already know exactly what you want to say to your significant other when you tie the knot. For others though, picking a wedding reading can be an overwhelming task, particularly if you’re unsure where best to look.

You may want to choose a wedding reading that complements the theme of your wedding venue, one that describes your type of love perfectly, or something that says all the words you want to say in a way that you never could. Whatever you’re looking for – our comprehensive selection of the best wedding readings has been collated to compliment every type of couple, whatever the venue may be.

Read on to feel inspired!

1) Les Misérables

by Victor Hugo

If modern wedding readings aren’t really your thing, this breathtaking extract from Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables may be the perfect romantic wedding reading for you!

“The future belongs to hearts even more than it does to minds. Love, that is the only thing that can occupy and fill eternity. In the infinite, the inexhaustible is requisite.

Love participates of the soul itself. It is of the same nature. Like it, it is the divine spark; like it, it is incorruptible, indivisible, imperishable. It is a point of fire that exists within us, which is immortal and infinite, which nothing can confine, and which nothing can extinguish. We feel it burning even to the very marrow of our bones, and we see it beaming in the very depths of heaven.”

2) The Notebook

 by Nicholas Sparks

Alternatively, why not go for a modern wedding reading from a rom com or book? The Notebook was originally a Nicholas Sparks novel. And his beautiful words are a strong choice for romantic wedding readings.

wedding readings

“I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough.”

3) Everything I Know About Love

by Dolly Alderton

Next, this is one of our favourite modern wedding readings, from Dolly Alderton’s Everything I Know About Love.

“I know that love can be loud and jubilant…I also know that love is a pretty quiet thing. It’s lying on the sofa together drinking coffee, talking about where you’re going to go that morning to drink more coffee. It’s folding down pages of books you think they’d find interesting

It’s saying ‘You’re safer here than in a car’ as they hyperventilate on an EasyJet flight to Dublin. It’s the texts: ‘Hope your day goes well’, ‘How did today go?’, ‘Thinking of you today’ and ‘Picked up loo roll’.

Love is a quiet, reassuring, relaxing, pottering, pedantic, harmonious hum of a thing; something you can easily reach forget is there, even though its palms are outstretched beneath you in case you fall.”

4) Up

Some of the best wedding readings are simply short and sweet! And that’s certainly the case when it comes to this adorable line from Pixar’s Up.

best wedding readings

“You and me… we’re in a club now. And you will always be my greatest adventure.”

5) Jane Eyre

by Charlotte Bronte

Without a doubt one of the most romantic wedding ceremony weddings is taken from Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre. This stunning extract captures classic literature at its finest, so those with a love for the written word are bound to love this romantic wedding reading.

“I have for the first time found what I can truly love — I have found you. You are my sympathy — my better self — my good angel — I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my center and spring of life, wraps my existence about you — and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one. It was because I felt and knew this, that I resolved to marry you.”

6) When Harry Met Sally

by Nora Ephron

Classic rom-com When Harry Met Sally is perfect material for romantic wedding readings.

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

7) The Lord of the Rings

by J.R.R. Tolkien

“When Winter comes, and singing ends, when darkness falls at last; When broken is the barren bough, and light and labour past;

I’ll look for thee, and wait for thee, until we meet again; Together we will take the road beneath the bitter rain.

Together we will take the road that leads into the West; And far away will find a land where both our hearts may rest.”

8) Harry Potter Wedding Reading

by J.K. Rowling

If the happy couple are Harry Potter fans, why not choose one of the best wedding readings from the wizarding world? This is one of our favourite unique wedding readings for adding a short and sweet touch to your speech.

“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

9) Sleepless in Seattle

by Nora Ephron

“It was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together … and I knew it.

I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home … only to no home I’d ever known …

I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like … magic.”

10) Joanne Woodward

Hollywood couples come and go…but Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman’s marriage really stood the test of time. Once Hollywood’s golden couple, the glamorous duo were married for over fifty years. And we love this quote from Woodward about their timeless romance…

romantic wedding readings

“Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to have a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that is a real treat.”

11) Fleabag Wedding Speech

by Phoebe Waller-Bridge

“Love is awful. It’s awful. It’s painful. It’s frightening. It makes you doubt yourself, judge yourself, distance yourself from the other people in your life. It makes you selfish. It makes you creepy, makes you obsessed with your hair, makes you cruel, makes you say and do things you never thought you would do.

It’s all any of us want, and it’s hell when we get there. So no wonder it’s something we don’t want to do on our own. I was taught if we’re born with love then life is about choosing the right place to put it. People talk about that a lot, feeling right, when it feels right it’s easy. But I’m not sure that’s true. It takes strength to know what’s right. And love isn’t something that weak people do. Being a romantic takes a hell of a lot of hope. I think what they mean is, when you find somebody that you love, it feels like hope.”

12) Winnie the Pooh Wedding Reading

by A.A Milne

One of the most beautiful wedding readings is taken from none other than Winnie the Pooh! This sentimental extract is sure to pull at some heartstrings.

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.”

Browse our guide to romantic wedding songs for your first dance or ceremony.

13) The Wedding Singer

 by Tim Herlihy

“I want to make you smile whenever you’re sad
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I want to do is grow old with you
I’ll get your medicine when your tummy aches
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you

I’ll miss you, Kiss you
Give you my coat when you are cold
Need you, Feed you
Even let you hold the remote control
So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink
Put you to bed if you’ve had too much to drink
I could be the man who grows old with you
I want to grow old with you.”

14) Juno

by Diablo Cody

Unusual wedding readings are sometimes the best wedding readings! And one of our favourites is this heartwarming line from Juno.

“The best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are.

Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what have you, the right person is still going to think the sun shines out your ass.

That’s the kind of person that’s worth sticking with.”

15) Breakfast at Tiffany’s Wedding Reading

screenplay by George Axelrod

“People do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that’s the only chance anybody’s got for real happiness”

16) Be My Wife

by David Bowie

“Sometimes you get so lonely, Sometimes you get nowhere
I’ve lived all over the world, I’ve left every place

Please be mine, Share my life
Stay with me, Be my wife”

While you’re here, why not discover some of the best wedding venues in the UK?

17) Meet Joe Black

by Bo Goldman, Kevin Wade, Ron Osborn and Jeff Reno

“Love is passion, obsession, someone you can’t live without. I say, fall head over heels. Find someone you can love like crazy and who will love you the same way back. How do you find him? Well, you forget your head, and you listen to your heart…Cause the truth is, honey, there’s no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love, well, you haven’t lived a life at all. But you have to try, cause if you haven’t tried, you haven’t lived.”

18) Before Sunrise

by Richard Linklater & Kim Krizan

If you’re looking for unusual wedding readings, why not draw some inspiration from the movies?

best wedding readings

“It’s like our time together is just ours. It’s our own creation. It must be like I’m in your dream and you’re in mine or something.”

19) Shakespeare in Love

by Tom Stoppard & Marc Norman

“I will have poetry in my life. And adventure. And love. Love above all. No… not the artful postures of love, not playful and poetical games of love for the amusement of an evening, but love that…overthrows life. Unbiddable, ungovernable, like a riot in the heart, and nothing to be done, come ruin or rapture.”

20) Sex and the City

Created by Darren Star

His hello was the end of her endings
Her laugh was their first step down the aisle
His hand would be hers to hold forever
His forever was as simple as her smile

He said she was what was missing
She said instantly she knew
She was a question to be answered
And his answer was ‘I do’.

21) The One

by Rupi Kaur

When it comes to the best wedding readings, sometimes short and sweet is all you need!

“they should feel like home
a place that grounds your life
where you go to take the day off.”

Need inspiration for your wedding gift bags? Our guide is full of fabulous ideas.

22) Johnny Cash’s Letter

A letter to June Carter

“We get old and get used to each other. We think alike. We read each others’ minds. We know what the other wants without asking.

Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit. Maybe sometimes take each other for granted.

But once in a while, like today, I meditate on it and realise how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I ever met.”

23) Time In a Bottle

by Jim Croce

Jim Croce’s beautiful song lyrics are also perfect for crafting one of the most romantic wedding readings guests have ever heard…

If I could save time in a bottle,
the first thing that I’d like to do,
is to save every day ‘till eternity passes away,
just to spend them with you.

If I could make days last forever;
if words could make wishes come true;
I’d save every day like a treasure and then, again,
I would spend them with you.

24) Friends (Monica to Chandler)

“I found everything that I’d ever been looking for my whole life.

And now here we are with our future before us, and I only want to spend it with you, my prince, my soulmate, my friend.”

25) Yes I’ll Marry You

by Pam Ayres

“Yes, I’ll marry you, my dear, And here’s the reason why;

So I can push you out of bed, When the baby starts to cry,

And if we hear a knocking, And it’s creepy and it’s late,

I hand you the torch, you see, And you investigate.

Yes I’ll marry you, my dear, You may not apprehend it,

But when the tumble-drier goes, It’s you that has to mend it,

You have to face the neighbour, Should our labrador attack him,

And if a drunkard fondles me It’s you that has to whack him.

Yes, I’ll marry you, You’re virile and you’re lean,

My house is like a pigsty You can help to keep it clean.

That sexy little dinner, Which you served by candlelight,

As I do chipolatas, You can cook it every night!

It’s you who has to work the drill and put up curtain track,

And when I’ve got PMT it’s you who gets the flak,

I do see great advantages, But none of them for you,

And so before you see the light,

I do, I do, I do!.”

So, we hope you’ve enjoyed our guide to the best wedding readings. Whether you’re planning words to dedicate to your other half, or you’re the Maid of Honour or Best Man, we’re sure these thoughtful words will help to shape an unforgettable day.

The Most Fabulous Footballers’ Weddings this Season

When you think of the beautiful game, the last thing you think of is a beautiful wedding. In fact, you’d be right in thinking about awful dresses, even worse decorations and Ashley Cole – unfortunately. In this day and age, however, footballers’ weddings are much classier.

Today’s footballers’ weddings are much more sophisticated, intimate and upmarket. From opulent venues to immaculately dressed guests, take a look at these absolutely stunning footballers’ weddings.

Sergio Ramos & Pilar Rubio

A post shared by Sergio Ramos (@sergioramos) on

The Real Madrid captain and television presenter, Pilar Rubio, spared no expense as they tied the knot in Ramos’ hometown this month. Andalusia was brought to a complete standstill as hundreds of people lined the streets, desperate to steal a glimpse of the famous couple.

The guest list included notable names such as David and Victoria Beckham – whose wedding back in 1999 inspired an entire generation – Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, and Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, respectively.

Ramos wore an immaculate summer suit, ideal for the Andalusian temperatures, while his bride wore a beautiful diamond embellished veil. Described as the ‘wedding of the year’ in Spain, this footballers’ wedding was simply spellbinding.

Mesut Ozil & Amine Gulse

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Mesut Özil (@m10_official) on

A wedding fit for a president. That’s right, Mesut Ozil was married in Istanbul earlier this month with Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan as his best man.

As the president watched on in sheer wonderment, the Arsenal star married model, actress and former Miss Turkey, Amine Gulse on the banks of the Bospherous. Hundreds of white lilies dangled gorgeously above the couple’s heads as they delivered their vows to the sound of the waves lapping against the shore.

Despite causing a furore, this footballers’ wedding was quaint and wholesome.

Gylfi Sigurdsson & Alexandra Ivarsdottir

Would it even be a footballers’ wedding without a private jet? Everton and Iceland midfielder, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Ex-Miss World contestant, Alexandra Ivarsdottir, spared no expense as they married on Lake Como this June. Along with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, the couple tied the knot at Balbiano, which is described as one of the most important historical properties on the shores of the Lake.

Choosing an ivory theme, white roses were a focal feature of the ceremony as guests were given matching fans to keep themselves cool in the Mediterranean sun.

Alexandra looked stunning in an ivory lace dress complete with a long train, while Sigurdsson looked equally as smart. And not forgetting the couple’s dog, Koby, who we’re sure looked as dapper as his dad.

Daley Blind & Candy-Rae Fleur

A post shared by Daley Blind (@blinddaley) on

Posting on social media, the former Manchester United defender wrote: “Finally I can say that you are mine! Look at her; my beautiful wife, Mrs. Blind.” The Ajax star also went onto reveal that he was going to become a father; now how’s that for stealing your bride’s limelight.

This footballers’ wedding looked absolutely stunning – as did Candy Rae-Fleur who wore an exquisite lace dress and matching vail. Not to disappoint, her new husband wore a fetching black waistcoat, which complemented his perfectly tailored grey suit.

This footballers’ wedding was so romantic that it apparently brought Daley to tears – and looking at his beautiful wife and hearing his amazing news, we don’t blame him.

Harry Kane & Katie Goodland

A post shared by Harry Kane (@harrykane) on

“I Finally got to marry my best friend,” wrote Harry Kane as he married his childhood sweetheart, Katie Goodland.

The England captain, who has known Goodland since childhood, married his beloved fiancée in an exotic, albeit unknown, destination. This is one celebrity marriage that will almost certainly stand the test of time.

A real life fairy-tale, this footballers’ wedding was one to remember.
