With plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and brilliant depictions of what best friends are for, this wedding movie even earned itself two Oscar nominations!

Muriel’s Wedding

This ‘90s throwback wedding movie stars Toni Colette in her break-out role as Muriel, a socially awkward small town girl who steals her dad’s cash to seek out the wedding of her dreams.

She moves to Sydney, comes out of her shy shell and finally walks down the aisle feeling fabulous. A quintessentially Aussie comedy, this film has become a surprise cult hit that still delights viewers over twenty years on.

My Best Friend’s Wedding

My Best Friend’s Wedding stars Hollywood superstar Julia Roberts, who plays a struggling woman who has fallen for her best friend. The film sees her deal with him getting engaged to another woman and realising she’s completely missed her chance with the love of her life.

This hilarious films follows two best friends, played by Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson who are both planning to get married.  However, they quickly become  enemies when they realise their respective weddings are scheduled on the same day at their dream venue!

We see the two brides release their inner demons, with their lifelong friendship as a possible casualty. 

Four Weddings and a Funeral

No wedding movie list would be complete without the definitive British romantic-comedy, Four Weddings and a Funeral. Starring the British heartthrob Hugh Grant, this romantic flick sees Grant politely stuttering his way through life.

During the film, he finds himself stuck in a room with newlyweds consummating their marriage, placed on a table with all his exes. We see him falling for a near-unattainable American and play his part in the singular most iconic kissing in the rain scene ever recorded on film.

Next up is a feel-good comedy classic, The Wedding Singer.

Set in 1985, Adam Sandler plays a nice guy with a broken heart who’s stuck in one of the most romantic jobs in the world, a wedding singer. He loses all hope when he is abandoned at the altar by his fiancé.

But, he soon meets a young woman named Julia, played by Drew Barrymore, who enlists his help to plan her wedding. He falls in love with her and must win her heart before she gets married.

The Princess Diaries 2

Princess Mia is back for this second instalment of the Princess Diaries. Still coming to terms with life as a princess, she returns to Genovia after graduating with her best friend Lilly.

When they arrive, Mia’s grandmother (Julie Andrews) informs her that she cannot become queen unless she is married within 30 days. Nicholas Devereaux, played by the very handsome Chris Pine, is one of her top suitors, though he seems to be more interested in the crown than Mia. 

It’s one of the best feel-good wedding movies on the list.

Carrie Bradshaw finally gets the commitment she has dreamed of from the non-committal Mr Big, they are getting married! Having been married before, he would prefer a small affair. But, Carrie soon gets carried away with dreams of a fashionista’s perfect wedding. When Mr Big deserts Carrie at the alter, the girls take off on what-would-have-been her honeymoon and have an amazing time together, just like old times.

On Valentine’s day, Miranda confesses to Carrie that it was her fault that Mr Big got cold feet. Consequently, Carrie and Mr Big reconcile and have a small, romantic wedding at a registry office.
